Chuckanut Bay's U-14 Team Information
1. Chuckanut Bay Rugby Club Overview
Team established in 1973
Teams based on age as of January 1 (e.g., U-14, U-16, U-19, Adult)
There is apparently some flexibility based on size and experience.
U-14 and U-16 teams part of British Columbia Rugby Union www.bcrugby.com in the Lower Mainland Age Grade League
See the club website www.chuckanutrugby.com for more information.
2. The U-14 Team Coaches
The U-14 Team has four coaches. All of the coaches have played rugby for many years at a variety of levels. All have been player coaches during their careers. Jeremy’s youngest son plays on the team. Don was a founding member of the Chuckanut Bay Rugby Club and recently retired as a teacher in the Ferndale School District. Brad is currently a teacher in the Ferndale School District. Peter was the U-14 coach last year and is the U-12 coach this year. Because he is coaching the U-12 team, and his other son plays on the U-16 team, Peter will likely not be available for any games. The coaches and contact information is below:

Players:
a. Be on time to practices and games with all necessary equipment and paperwork – call or email if going to miss practice or game.
b. Pay attention and commit to learning/understanding the game.
c. Work hard both to learn game and to get fit – two practices a week and a game will not result in the level of fitness needed to play an entire game.
d. Support team mates and club.
Parents:
a. Get players to practices and games on time and with all necessary equipment and paperwork – ensure that they call or email if they are going to miss practice or game.
b. Complete Registration Materials by February 7th.
c. Need a team manager (tracks registration forms, handles dues, coordinates communication, works with Meal Coordinator)
d. Hosting Responsibilities – Need a Meal Coordinator to ensure hospitality. We are expected to provide a meal to the visiting team for all home games - nothing fancy but hamburgers, drinks, chips (this is part of the rugby ethic).

You will need to purchase/provide the equipment listed below. It can be purchased at International Athletic (2044 Main Street. Ferndale – 384-6868) and if you mention that you are with the club, you can get a discount.
a. Rugby cleats
b. Mouth guard (bring and wear during every practice and game)
c. Rugby Shorts (Black color, Barbarian is the brand name)
d. Socks (black color)
To save costs, we have a set of game jerseys that will be issued to players at the games and then collected from the players after the games. This will save the $50 cost per jersey for parents who have kids that are still growing. If you want to buy a personal jersey, you can purchase them at International Athletics.
8. Resources

9. Registration
Registration Packet must be completed ASAP – see or call Jeremy for packet. Registration Fee is $70.00.
10. Schedule
Schedule: U-14 games will start at either 11:15 or at 12:30. We need to provide a lunch for the home games and the coaches need one or more parents to step up and take on the responsibility of coordinating this post game meal.
The away games are in Canada but generally not too far over the border (less than an hour drive). Parents who go to the games will need to prove citizenship – passports are the easiest way but a driver’s license and birth certificate will also work for now. All kids traveling without their parents need a signed permission slip. In general, there are short waits going north in the morning but waits on the return trip can be as long as an hour so plan on a delay southbound.
