| What is Rugby? |
Rugby is a fun sport. Sometimes it is described as a cross between soccer and football, but that doesn’t prepare you for what Rugby is all about. Rugby for our youth, both boys and girls, is a non-contact (two hand touch) sport for kindergartener’s through 2nd grader’s and contact for 3rd through 6th graders, that requires ball passing, ball kicking, strategy, strength, speed, and a lot of teamwork. After more than a hundred years the sport that began in Rugby England is now enjoyed worldwide. Rugby is played in virtually every country in the world. The United States has a national team as do most U.S. universities.
Come join the Chuckanut Mini’s practices on Sunday’s at the Fairhaven Middle School (110 Parkridge Road) from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, see schedule for exact dates of practices and Jamboree’s (games). The season is broken up into two halves, a fall and spring half. The fall half starts in September and runs through November, including four jamborees (organized games with other mini rugby teams from Canada). The spring half starts at the end of January and runs through April including five jamborees. The team either practices on Sunday or participates in a jamboree on Sunday.
The only requirement to join the Chuckanut Mini’s, for a boy or a girl, is the desire to have FUN while running around outside with other kids their age. If they have fun then we have accomplished our mission. If they learn a few Rugby skills and develop teamwork characteristics, that would be the icing on the cake.
