Chuckanut U-19 Boys Lose one of its own... Chuckanut U19 captain RAY TAUMAOE died early Friday morning.
Ray and his family have been a part of the Chuckanut youth program since it revitalized in 2000, serving as a water boy, playing rookie rugby, and with the club's U14, U16 and, finally, U19 programs. He was captain of the U19s this past season. He was also on the Washington Loggers all-star team.
Ray has been in the Chuckanut Rugby Family for more than 12yrs of his young short life, so I know that he has touched many of your lives….please help us in remembering and honoring him and his family!
Services are set for this Saturday August 20th at 10am at Bellingham Covenant Church located at 1530 E Bakerview Rd in Bellingham. There will be a reception following the funeral at Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway in Bellingham.

BC U-14 Champions!!! Chuckanut beat the Capilano Barbarians with a score of 30 to 7 to win the U-14 Bowl Championship. Luke Portillo had 4 tries and Tyler Morrison had 2. We did not make any conversions.
Although the forwards did not score they provided excellent support and outstanding defense. If I had to pick one reason why we were successful it would be because of relentless defense and solid tackling. Some of the notable players for the forwards were Alex Kocan, Wiatt Vasey, and Nick Zeegers. Simon Maguire had a great game as scrum half with very good decision making and solid passing.
Capilano made a strong run in the first half when Chuckanut was up by only two tries. Tyler Morrison provided a try saving tackle by not allowing Capilano player to touch the ball down in the try zone denying the score. Tyler sprinted from 30 meters away to make the play and it was a momentum breaker for Capilano.
I cannot say enough about how this team came together at the end of the season. This team had players from 6 different school districts. Most of them did not even know each other at the beginning of the season. To see them celebrating as a team after their victory was outstanding and great to be a part of.
The team is very excited to bring a trophy home to the clubhouse.
