The 32nd Annual Can-Am Summer Sevens

This Year's Results

The Bellingham Rugby and Polo Fields played host to another great day of the seven a side version of rugby football. Thirty two teams from both sides of the border played a total of 45 games on what was the hottest day of the summer. When it was all over, Valley High (BC), whose roster include a number of Canada 7’s players, knocked off the two time defending Champion, Old Puget Sound Beach 20 - 17 to win the Can Am Cup. They also took home the cash prize of $1500 and a new set of KOOGA shirts. Valley High reached the final with a 31-0 win over Chuckanut Bay, 47-0 over Idaho Ospreys and a come from behind 15-12 victory over Bayside in the semi final. Old Puget Sound Beach won their pool with victories over Ospreys, Chuckanut Bay and a semi final win over OPSB II. It was one of the best finals in years with both teams displaying a very high standard of rugby sevens. Sean White from Valley High, was the MVP.

The host team Chuckanut Bay won the B Division Final with an overtime 33-28 win over Del Rey from Kent, Washington. In the Elite Women’s Division, the Emerald City Mudhens took home the first place trophy with a 24-19 victory over the Bayside Lady Sharks. The U19 Championship saw Chuckanut Bay Steamers come from behind to defeat Bayside U19’s 33-28.

1st: Emerald City Mudhens
2nd: Bayside Lady Sharks
3rd: Portland Cyclones



About the Tournament

Chuckanut Bay is proud to once again play host to the Can-Am Summer Sevens. The Can-Am Summer Sevens started in 1978, and the event has come a long way since then. The first two years were played on the campus of Western Washington University. Sudden Valley was the venue for the third tournament and now the Bellingham Rugby and Polo Club will host the event for the twenty-ninth time!

What's new this year? This year one day just wasn't enough time to showcase all the amazing rugby matches we have in store. On Saturday, July 10th we will be featuring the Competitive Men's & Women's tournament, where a cash prize of $1500 will be awarded to the Competitive Men's team champions, as well as a set of Kooga Rugby Jersey's! Then on Sunday, July 11th the U-19 team's will get their chance to battle it out on the rugby pitch, and see which team has what it takes to win it all!

We take pride in presenting good, competitive rugby action, in a beautiful setting. It is no mistake that this tournament is recognized as a premier event on the rugby calendar!
